Duet Interior Design was originally formed in 2011 by Cathy Haslem and Julie Pickert. Julie retired from the interior design industry in early 2016. Cathy carries on the tradition of providing clients with a high level of attention to detail and professional service.
Cathy was previously in the travel and hospitality industry, working for such companies as American Express Travel and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. She brings her extensive background in travel and living abroad to her design philosophy. After many years of dedicating her life to her family and community, she returned to school at Santa Barbara City College in 2005 and received her degree in Interior Design, earning both the President’s Honor Roll and Phi Theta Kappa Award.
Cathy is a Certified REGREEN Trained Professional thru the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). She is also an Allied Member of ASID and the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). Cathy served on the Los Angeles chapter of the ASID Board of Directors in 2019 as the Director of Professional Development. She was the Chairperson for the ASID-Los Angeles, "Santa Barbara: The American Riviera Design Conference" in June 2019. Cathy served as President-Elect of the Los Angeles Chapter of ASID in 2021 and President of the Los Angeles Chapter in 2022 and was the Chairperson once again for "Santa Barbara: The American Riviera Design Conference" in September of 2022.
